I'm putting my hand up to say I'm not into the Apple itoys.

I'm not a trendsetter or follower.  I have zero interest in applications that I never use.  I'm not mesmerized by flashing lights or things that go zoom.

I'm a guy who likes multifunction tools that get the jobs I want done, well, done.

I've been researching my next phone recently.  I currently own a Nokia N95 8GB.  It has been a great phone for me but not perfect.  It needs a qwerty keyboard because I do a lot of texting and the screen is too small for web browsing in my opinion.

The camera is great, I use that heaps, the FM radio is excellent, I'm not into downloading music because all the stuff I like has that rip off drm crap attached to it, and it has all the "apps" I need built in like calculator, clock, diary, address book, notepad, gps, wifi access etc.

It's almost the perfect tool for me.  The best thing has been that in the 2 years I've owned it it has never broken down.  This is the only computer type thing I have ever owned that didn't crash from time to time.

But my contract is almost up and I would like to upgrade to something that at least has a qwerty.

At first I was impressed with the iphone, until I compared it's specs to the new Nokia N900.  What is going on in Apple's head?  What is going on in iphone buyer's heads for that matter?  The iphone is all flash but it's light on features compared to other phones like the Nokia.  So why would anyone choose it?

I was really curious to see what the new itablet would be like to see if it compared favorably, but I now realize it is more of a laptop replacement with phone connectivity.  Not what I'm after but fair enough.  I wonder if it will be light on features you would normally expect from a laptop like a dvd drive for instance.  Only time will tell I guess.

I just don't get where Apple's head is at.  If you are making a smartphone why leave out all the useful stuff like a decent camera and a competitive amount of memory and instead go for 3rd party gimmick apps that people will think are cool for about 5 mins and then never use again?

Maybe Apple is onto something.  Maybe they have done their research after all.  Maybe most people really are retards.  Apple are certainly shipping stacks of iunits.  Clearly the retard market is a gold mine.

All flash and no substance.  We have become a generation of iwankers.

That should be Apple's new slogan:

Apple Corporation - iproducts 4 iwankers.

Oh, ok, the new ipad is a book replacement that can search the internet.  So it's not really designed to be a laptop replacement as such.

I suppose I can forgive a lack of features compared to laptops then... no, actually I can't.  I guess there is a need for this ithingy in society for some people... no, actually there isn't.

The ipad is still about the same size as a laptop, not as thick and probably lighter but not a big enough size difference to justify buying it over a more functional laptop.  Laptops can display books, web pages and are capable of so much more.  So is an electronic ibook even necessary?  Short answer, no.

If you own a laptop and a feature rich smart phone then all of your personal and most of your business computing needs are covered.  There is no need for a device that isn't good enough to be a laptop and is too big to be a smart phone.  Apple has shown us why nerds shouldn't do acid.

Anyway, what I really need at the moment is a smart phone that is big enough to show a web page without using a magnifying glass and yet small enough to attach to my belt without pulling my pants down.  That would put me in the iphone target market rather than the ipad target market today but I'm sorry the iphone just doesn't stack up to it's competition.

I'm still leaning toward the Nokia N900 for my next smart phone.  Apple, your products are pretty but you need to at least supply the same features as your competitors if you want to be taken seriously by grown ups.

Change your dosage dudes.  What happened to you Apple?  You started out as the best computer company in the world and then turned into a sheltered workshop making toys for cyber hillbillies and children.  Look at the purdy lights Darlene!  My widgit is a spinnin'!
